On the commercial building ‘Metro Cash & Carry’ in Novi Sad, waterproofing renovation was carried out on the section where the screws fixing the thermal insulation and waterproofing to the structural frame in the flat, non-accessible roof system had loosened.

The existing lightning protection system and waterproofing were first dismantled, and preparations were made for installing new PVC waterproofing.

The installation and fixing of the new PVC waterproofing membrane ‘Sikaplan G-15‘ were performed according to the wind load calculation made by the membrane manufacturer ‘Sika‘. This calculation is significantly stricter than in previous years and requires a higher number of fasteners and wider membrane overlaps (in this project, 1-meter-wide rolls were used).

The PVC membrane was fixed using HTK plugs and TKR screws manufactured by ‘Ejot‘.

After laying, fixing, and hot-air welding the PVC membrane at overlaps and to the existing roof waterproofing, the membrane was also applied to the parapets. Light domes and lightning protection outlets were sealed, details were treated, and safety patches of PVC membrane were placed at the connection points between the new and existing waterproofing.

The final step was installing the new lightning protection system, including mounting and fixing the ‘SON17 C‘ wire holders and aluminum wire AH2 Ø10mm, made by ‘Hermi Invisible Lightning Protection’, and connecting to the existing conductor.

The total renovated area was approx. 610 m², with 230 meters of new lightning protection installed.
