On the commercial building of car service and dealership in Zemun, compositions of metal flashings were treated with tehnical membrane “Sikalastic 641”.
The most common problems that occur on roofs with roof sandwich panels and sheet metal flashings is the loosening of the sealed compositions.
Metal has a fairly large temperature expansion, ie. increasing or decreasing the length depending on the ambient temperature.
This phenomenon is expressed in compositions and overlaps where the flashings are joined with blind rivets or screws, and the overlap is filled with silicone mass. Due to the expansion of the sheets, the assemblies are twisted, silicone no longer seals the joint, and often the screws and rivets loosen. Water often breach the building in these places.
Using modern materials in the world of waterproofing, our team has found a very elegant solution for permanent sealing of sheet metal flashings, with the use of liquid polyurethane liquid membrane/coating “Sikalastic 641”.
The advantage of this system is the direct bonding of the liquid membrane to the substrate with an adequate primer. Reinforcement of the coating is achieved with “Sikalastic Reemat Premium” mesh/felt, which makes the sealed composition resist the temperature expansion of sheet metal cladding for a longer period of time.
A minor disadvantage of liquid coating is the slightly higher cost of materials and higher labor costs due to the specific technology, because one composition must be processed in two or three days.
The benefit of such processed compositions is that with a one-time investment, a permanent solution to the problem is obtained.
