At the business production facility “Ametek” in Subotica, the layers of the roof covering were cut for the passage of process equipment channels.
After installation of the ventilation channel, installation of the PVC coated drip trim was placed around the circumference of the circular metal flashing.
A separating layer of geotextile was placed on the upstand around the roof penetration, and then a PVC waterproofing membrane was mounted and welded.
After hot air welding of the waterproofing membrane for the PVC drip trim, sealing was performed with the polyurethane sealant “Sikaflex 11 FC”.
What is important to note is the stability of the waterproofing membrane at temperatures up to approx. 50°C. The manufacturer has defined this temperature as the limit up to which membrane fully retains its chemical and mechanical properties.
Any ventilation line, duct or chimney from the process equipment that blows air above 50°C must be covered with a layer of thermal insulation (rock wool) and then covered with another metal flashing.
This design lowers the temperature on the outside of the penetration and enables the installation of the PVC membrane.
You can see all this in the drawing Detail D2.
